Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is Physio? Physiotherapy is defined as: 'a health profession concerned with human function and movement and maximising potential; it uses physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being, taking account of variations in health status.' - The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Simply, most people come and see us because they are in pain. We are able to assess your complaint and use our physiotherapy skills to improve your condition. We aim to reduce your symptoms and improve your function. What is a Chartered Physiotherapist? And why do I need to make sure that they are chartered? Physiotherapists are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists. This is our professional body whose guidelines and codes of practice we adhere to when becoming a member. Being seen by a chartered physiotherapist gives the public the security that you are seeing a competent and professional clinician. What will happen in my first session? Usually what happens in the first session is that you come in to the clinic, meet your Physio and fill out a form with all your details. We then proceed to a treatment room where you are asked questions about your condition/the reason why you are here and we will listen to what you have to say. We will then assess your complaint (which usually involved the removal of some clothing in order to expose the problem area). We will explain to you what we have found on assessment and diagnose your complaint. We will then proceed to offer some treatment (if appropriate), we will always give you some exercise/stretches or advice to go away with as this is part of your rehabilitation. What things do you do Physio for? We can treat a whole host of conditions as outlined in previous pages. The most common ailments we see are back pain, whiplash, arthiritc pain, tennis elbow and sporting injuries. How much is it? The initial assessment is £39 and all subsequent treatments are £36. Will my insurance company pay? Unfortunately we will not know the answer to this. The details of your insurance policy are between yourself and the insurance company. It would be best to find out the details before you come to an appointment. If you are not sure you can always pay us directly and we give you a receipt for you to claim it back. If you have contacted your insurance company they will usually give you a reference number and we can invoice the company direct for payment quoting your reference number. Can I pay by credit card? Yes you can. What should I wear? It doesn't really matter what you wear. Comfortable clothing is usually advised. However in order for us to assess and treat you properly we will ask that you remove the necessary clothing in order to do this. Underwear is always advisable. Will I be seen by a man or a woman? Presently our Physiotherapists here are women. What ages do you treat? The youngest patient we have seen was a 6 year old, and the oldest so far has been 96. Will you tell anyone that I have been to see you? We do write to your GP on discharge from us as professional courtesy so that they know we have treated you. But if you ask us specifically not to we won't. Do I need a letter from my GP? No, you do not need to be referred directly from your GP. People are referred to us by GP’s and some because their insurance requires it. You need to check with your insurance company if this is the case. I work long hours; will I be able to make an appointment? Our last appointments are 6.30 and 6.45 so that people can attend out of work hours. These slots are popular and so if you require a late appointment you might have to call early to avoid disappointment. Where are you? We are situated on Marlborough Rd. Number 18 it is right next door to the library in Banbury. If you are looking at the library it is the first house on the right. Opposite the Methodist church and TK Max car park. How long will I be with you? Our sessions are 40 minutes in duration. How many sessions will I need before I am cured? Classically a course of physiotherapy treatment is 6 sessions. This depends greatly on your condition and how long it has been a problem. We will assess your progress on a session to session basis and make that decision together. We never ask for payments up front or demand that you commit to a certain amount. We will endeavour to give you our most professional and honest opinion with regards to your condition and treatment, this is something that we do pride ourselves on at Banbury Physio and also is also the reason clients are referred to us by friends, family and other healthcare professionals. What's the difference between you and my Chiropracter? Physiotherapy and Chiropractic treatments are different and are totally different professions although we do see and treat the same conditions. Chiropractors tend to treat spinal problems and use a lot of manipulation. Physiotherapists treat spinal problems too and all other musculoskeletal problems, we can use all the treatments listed in previous pages. I'm not sure whether I need Physio, How do I know if you can help me? The best thing to do if you're not sure is to call us. The receptionist will take your message and we will call you back ASAP to discuss it with you over the telephone. We do this all the time and are happy to do so. We are always happy to discuss any issues with you prior to making an appointment. If you would like to speak to us contact us on 01295 275660 or email office@banbury-physio.co.uk Back to Top |
